On Tuesday, March 29, 2011, a New York City construction worker suffered a fifteen foot fall which resulted in substantial injuries and hospitalization. The construction worker, whose identity has yet to be released, was working on the new building for the CUNY’s Advanced Science Research Center in Harlem. Apparently, he was working high up, when the fall took place. He was wearing a safety harness, but it was not attached to a lifeline which is standard protocol at the workplace.
Paramedics came and rushed the injured construction worker to Bellevue hospital where he is being treated. The 40-year-old construction worker suffered severe injuries to both his right leg and his head. The project director made a statement regarding the injured worker, he said, “The safety of our employees, and anyone that visits our job sites, is always our highest priority. Right now, our focus is on the injured worker and his family, but we will continue to work with officials to find out exactly what happened to avoid this type of accident in the future.”
Skanska USA Building Inc. was the company in charge of construction on the job site at the time of the accident. A foreman working at the time stated that the man who was seriously injured was working for Skanska at the time. A stop-work order was issued until further notice.
