New York City Pedestrian Accident Results In Death

Posted in Pedestrian accidents on September 24, 2012

Driving isn’t a right, it is a privilege and sometimes that privilege can lead to overconfident, thoughtless drivers who cannot seem to take responsibility for their actions behind the wheel. When the one at fault refuses to take responsibility for the accident they’ve caused, what can be done?

This is a question that the family of a 79-year old pedestrian would like answered. On September 23rd, a minivan carrying a Pakistani diplomat along Park Ave. and E. 59th St to the Pakistani mission on E. 65th St collided with a black Mazda sending the car into a tailspin. The spinning Mazda struck a man and a woman who were hailing a cab on the street – the man later died.

The driver and the diplomat both refused to provide documentation, but the diplomat did comment that he wasn’t at fault for the accident.

It’s obvious that pedestrians are more vulnerable to serious injuries or a fatality on our busy streets and crowded roadways than individuals who are in a motorized vehicle. The majority of motor vehicles versus pedestrian accidents usually result in a serious traumatic brain injury, permanent disability, or catastrophic death.

In today’s world, it’s very common to see distracted drivers at the wheel on their cell phones and not paying attention to pedestrians, joggers, runners, or skateboarders. This is how most pedestrian accidents happen in NYC.  It’s critical for all drivers to be highly alert when driving the populated streets of New York City or approaching crosswalks to help prevent pedestrian accidents. Do your part in helping save a life by being an attentive and vigilant driver.
