Fordham and Tremont are two more high-crime neighborhoods in the Bronx. Theft and property crimes have made it difficult for business owners to operate in these areas, affecting the quality of daily life for those who live in the borough.
Jamaica and Rockaway are two particularly problematic Queens neighborhoods. Jamaica, Queens, is home to many cultures and diverse activities. Unfortunately, it is also home to high rates of violent and property crimes.
Rockaway is a popular tourist location with beautiful beaches and plenty of activities, but reduced tourism in the off-season brings higher rates of crime.
The number of total crimes per 1,000 residents is 15.68 in Staten Island. This is higher than the New York State average but lower than other boroughs. Violent crime is a concern in Staten Island, where your chances of becoming a victim are about 1 in 22.
While Midtown Manhattan is experiencing increasing levels of crime and homelessness, as a whole, the borough is considered the safest one in NYC. The high rate of tourism — which comes with a strong police presence — and a bustling business district contribute to lower rates of crime in this region.
