Interstate 87, near exit 17 in Moreau NY was the scene of a fatal accident on Sunday. Those on the scene during the accident say that one car, a 2007 Kia Spectra, was traveling very fast in the left lane when it suddenly veered off the road and flew into a large tree. The driver, 36 year old Michael Romanowski, a resident of Saratoga Springs, died at the scene. His passenger, 24 year old Andrew Casper, also of Saratoga Springs, was life-flighted to Albany Medical Center where he has been in critical condition. This unfortunate incident is a tragedy that could have been prevented simply by obeying the rules of the road. The posted speed limit along many NY roads is between 45 and 55 miles per hour. Speeding isn’t just a crime; it can also be the last mistake you make in your life.
When traveling over the posted speed limit, your chances of accident increase simply because the faster you’re going the less time you have to respond – your reaction time is decreased exponentially.
