NYC Truck Accident Hospitalizes Hit & Run Victim

A Newsday newspaper delivery driver was hit by a car that sped away from the accident scene. On March 4, the accident occurred when Douglas Pierkarski, the driver of the truck for Newsday, was traveling westbound on Montauk Highway near Homan Avenue. A 2005 Chevrolet Malibu struck the truck causing it to overturn. The men in the Chevrolet Malibu fled the scene. Piekarski was taken to Brookhaven Memorial Hospital Medical Center with serious injuries. Two men, brothers from Long Island, were found and arrested with the hit-and-run accident. Charges for leaving the scene of an accident were filed against Dambrosio of Patchogue, and his brother, Michael Dambrosio, was charged with tampering with physical evidence and hindering prosecution. Most truck accidents result in traumatic brain injury or serious physical injuries to drivers and passengers alike. Data indicates that one out of eight traffic fatalities is caused by a collision with a large truck.
